Senior Research Specialist,

Toxicology Research Laboratory

Alecander D. Zakharov is responsible for the analytical chemistry methodology, analytical/bioanalytical methods development and validation, and plasma/tissue drug level analyses.  Dr. Zakharov’s research interests focus on the development of HPLC and LC/MS/MS methods for the determination of drugs and their metabolites in biological specimens, toxicokinetics and pharmacokinetics, protein (enzyme) purification, investigation of enzyme activity and kinetics parameters, especially proteolysis. Dr. Zakharov received a M.Sc. degree in Chemistry (with a specialization in Physical Chemistry) and a Ph.D. degree in Biology (with a specialization in Biochemistry) from the Moldova State University, Republic of Moldova (in 1993 and 2004, respectively).  His positions before and since the Ph.D. have included an engineer (lab manager) in the Department of Ecology at the International Independent University of Moldova and a research scientist in the Protein Chemistry Lab at the Moldova State University.

He was awarded several grants for the continuation of his research at the Institute of Plant Genetics in Gatersleben, Germany. In 2004 he worked in the Department of Pathology and Cancer Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and later, in the Department of Pharmacology. He joined the Toxicology Research Laboratory in 2006. Dr. Zakharov has 15 years of experience in different areas of natural sciences such as protein biochemistry, molecular cell biology, analytical chemistry and drug analysis, which has resulted in the publication of 14 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributions to international conferences, and a number of professional reports for Sponsors.  He is a member of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS).
