Acute Radiation Models and Medical Countermeasures

For over 15 years TRL has been on the forefront of basic model development and validation alongside their government and regulatory partners helping define expectations and guidelines for the pre-clinical evaluation of new and effective medical countermeasures for radiation injuries among the civilian population.  TRL has been one of the few CROs that continues to expand the knowledge-base and carry the understanding from translational research into product development with respect to radiation mitigation and stockpile generation.

Translational research models in various stages of development include:
          •    NHP Radiation Models - Total Body Irradiation models in Chinese Rhesus macaques that include the                                           hematopoietic and gastrointestinal dose ranges, specializing in both minimal and full supportive care.
          •    Bone marrow transplant model in Cynomolgus and graft vs host and cord blood transplant models in Baboons
          •    Gottingen Minipig Models - Total Body Radiation and combined injury (wounds)
          •     New Zealand White Rabbit Models - Total Body Radiation
          •     Rodent Models (mice and rats) - Total Body Radiation, Partial Body Irradiation, and Combined Injury
          •    Hamster model of mucositis

Relevant resources include:
          •    Two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators (LINAC) with custom animal shielding, x-ray confirmed dose field,
                 and variable dose rates
          •    Large bore CT, MRI, Nuclear Scan, X-Ray, Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound imaging as needed
          •    On-site clinical pathology and relevant biomarker guided supportive care, including bacteriology driven                                    antibiotic support
          •    Bone marrow and blood bank acquisition and cell phenotype analysis
